If you have ever owned a cat, you probably know that you never really “own” a cat – the cat owns you.
My parents would not allow any animals in the house when I was a kid and they still don’t. But we did have some cats that ran wild in the woods behind the house. Even though my mother would complain about those cats, every night after we finished supper she would take a pot of scraps and leftovers and put them out by the edge of the woods to feed the cats.
I wanted to have a cat as a pet, to have a companion and pet it every day. But you could not do that with the wild cats. They were far too skittish about people and would never allow anyone to catch them, much less pet them.
